In the context of George Floyd's murder by the police and the recent uprisings against police brutality, there has been international attention on police and militarized violence and the systematic racism that affects Black people's lives.

Black liberation movements have evolved but the struggle against oppression has continued. This is bigger than the current moment--and we, the WPJC, recognize and thank the work of Black leaders historically and in the present. We must continue to fight injustice and not allow Black Lives Matter to be diminished due to performative activism.

In our time as an organization, the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center has shown up in solidarity with Black folx over the years by amplifying their leadership and fighting for racial justice and the end of state sanctioned violence that disproportionately affects Black people at home and abroad. We invite our community to educate themselves and get engaged in this struggle with us.

The following resources pertain to helping bring awareness to police brutality against Black people, aid to the people affected by it, and protesting the violence brought upon people by the police to bring about change. There are also links to help people affected by systematic racism outside of police brutality, as well. It is a non-exhaustive list and will be updated with time. If there are any mistakes, link errors, or suggested additions, feel free to contact the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center via email or on our social media.

[Trigger Warning] There is sensitive material in some of these links. Though there likely will not be any videos/images of violence, blood, or gore (i.e. police brutality), there are descriptions of such topics. Do mentally prepare yourself before pursuing some of these links and stories.
